The Bayswater Suzuki Group holds one major concert a year, during the Autumn Term. There are also two informal concerts held on the last day of the Spring and Summer Terms to showcase all the work done in Saturday Groups.
Throughout the year there are also solo concerts for the teachers’ private pupils. Children will also be involved in the larger concerts put on by the London Suzuki Group (LSG) and British Suzuki Institute (BSI): concerts have recently been at the South Bank, St John’s Smith Square and the Royal College of Music. The performance opportunities for students at the Bayswater Suzuki Group are excellent.
See the calendar for more information on dates and locations.
The Spring and Summer concerts are informal. However there is a dress code for the Annual concert in November, and for other events held by the LSG and BSI:
Pre-Twinkles and Book 1 children do not need “Concert Dress” – just smart clothes.
Girls (Book 2 up)
Younger girls should wear a pinafore dress made from the LSG’s material, Liberty Tana Lawn ‘Wiltshire’. This may be obtained from the BSI shop who can also advise on dressmakers. You should allow one and one half metres for a 5 year old’s dress. A white blouse or polo-neck should be worn underneath the dress. Older girls may wear all-black, with black tights and black polished shoes — and may also wear a ‘Wiltshire’ material sash (available ready-made).
There are often second hand dresses available, so do ask parents at groups if they have a dress their child has grown out of. Some of the dresses have seen through many generations of young LSG musicians!
Boys (Book 2 up)
Boys should wear a white shirt tucked in to smart dark trousers with dark socks and an LSG navy tie (available from the BSI shop). Please wear smart black shoes; trainers are not allowed.
The British Suzuki Institute Shop stocks ties and sashes and can be reached between 9:30 and 1 on weekdays on 020 3176 4172.
